    Notes
    • Convict that was assigned to Thomas Rawsthorne.

SAMUEL ALLPORT - Convincing evidence exists that SAMUEL ALLPORT was in fact the alias of the transported convict SIMEON ALLPORT who arrived in the colony of New South Wales 25/10/1837 on the James Pattison. SIMEON, the son of SIMEON ALLPORT and SARAH ALLEN, was baptised 6/4/1817 at HANDSWORTH Staffordshire. He married MARIA POOLE 5/10/1935 at ASTON JUXTA Birmingham. SIMEON and his accompliace were said to have stolen fowls at HANDSWORTH on 18/10/1836. Both were sentanced at the Staffordshire Quarter Sessions on 4/1/1837 to be transported for seven years. SIMEON was assigned to THOMAS RAWTHORNE (sic) at VALE OF CLYWDD and later issued with a Ticket of Leave by the Bench at HARTLEY VALE for service with JAMES COLLETT (sic).

      ---------------

I note that the Rawsthorne Family Tree has a Samuel Allport listed who was born in 1815. I hope you do not mind me contacting you but there may be an element of doubt and I think that Samuel should be named Simeon based on my research.
Simeon Allport was born to Simeon and Sarah Allport (nee Allen) and baptised on 6 April 1817 at St: Mary's Church, Handsworth near Birmingham, UK. For some reason he was baptised as Simeon Allen (i.e. his mother's maiden name) although his parents had been married in 1803 at Aston, Birmingham. Simeon Allport was convicted in 1837 for stealing fowls and ducks and sentenced to be transported for 7 years.
He arrived on the ship James Pattison on 25 October 1837 and was assigned to Thomas Rawthorne, Vale of Clywdd.

I hope you do not mind me bringing this to your attention.

      Dennis Allport
