    Notes
    • His Obitury Mudgee Guardian 3rd February 1921:

"The late Samuel James Lynch, news of whose death was briefly referred to in our last issue, was 84 years old, having spent 80 years of that time in New South Wales. He was a native of Belfast, County Antrim (Ireland) and landed in Sydney with his parents when only four years old, and stayed there for a few years until the family took up a 40 acre block near Rylstone. During the journey over the mountains the lad was carried on his dad's back for long distances. Whilst doing the journey convict gangs in chains were met engaged in making the Great Western Road. The parents worked for the late Mr G.H Cox on "Dabee", and afterwards went to Coolah, where the deceased's father took over the management of "Old Coolah" of which "Oban" now forms part. Five or six years later deceased went on to "Mogemill" a 17,000 acre property, which his father bought and which remained in the family for 40 years. Deceased lived on "Mogemill until he took up a selection at Cainbil Creek. After a number of years he went into business as a hotel keeper, and purchased the Merrygoen Hotel (the building still stands) where he remained until shortly after the death of his wife in 1884, having been married in Mudgee to Miss Mary Donnelly, of Windsor. Deceased then took over the management of his father's property until it was disposed of. Mr Lynch then went to live in Sydney for a few years, and returned to Gulgong and resided with his son Mr John Lynch, up till the time of his death. Deceased was widely known and was a popular figure in this and adjoining districts. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs J Travis (Orange Grove, Gilgandra), Mr S J Lynch (Leadville), Mrs E Head (Imperial Hotel Pilliga), Miss L Lynch (Sydney), and Mr John Lynch (Royal Hotel, Gulgong). Deceased is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 35 great- grandchildren."
